Problem of the Month is a school-wide challenge
Each month, Noble students from preschool through grade 8 are challenged with a multi-layered math problem. All grade levels start with the basic problem, then continue to work through the increasingly complex levels. In February, the topic was Part-to-Whole. Students started off drawing or cutting a line of symmetry through a shape. Older students continued to sub-divide a garden into fractional pieces, simplifying as they went along.
Common Core mathematics requires that students persevere to solve problems, apply their knowledge to new situations, show their solutions in multiple ways, explain their thinking and understand the thinking of others. They must choose the proper math tools and use them effectively. The engaging monthly problems make learning fun.
